The Art School

Michelle Kinnane Dip Art., Dip Ed., graduated from Alexander Mackie to work as a freelance artist/illustrator before entering teaching. While exhibiting and working on commissions, Michelle taught in Sydney High Scchools mostly at the senior level for twenty years.

Now living in Pearl Beach, her exhibitions, art prizes and published works show the influence of the idyllic surrounds.

Michelle’s own work can be viewed on the facebook page.

Michelle’s aim is to create an environment that nurtures the creative spirit and feeds the soul; hence the essential oils burning to keep focus, and the bush essences in the water that aid clarity. The baroque music playing during class also has a purpose, apart from creating a relaxed ambience, it contributes to the intention of keeping focused and in the now.

Everyday worries and concerns are encouraged to be left at the door once you enter The Art Space. The space, and your time there is considered sacred.

Comparisons and judgements are definitely discouraged with the quote: “Observe yourself without judging yourself” displayed on a wall.

Students are invited to enjoy sharing the “creative sandbox” with kindred souls while making mutual discoveries in a supportive and enthusiastic environment.

The Art Space is one where individuals learn to manipulate and transform the world around them visually through playful experimentation with new tools and techniques.

Michelle Kinnane Portraiture:

Michelle’s love has always been the portrait.

Painting in oils at art school, she then turned to pastels for illustrating and commission work.

Since her return from East Timor in 2001, her palette shifted once again; using found objects and mixed media on paper, her portraits took on a an exciting new textural dimension.

Her latest foray into the magical world of wedding portraiture has proven to be an immensely popular form of keeping a very special event alive….possibly for generations!

It is here that we witness the culmination of years of experience as an artist and story teller.

To achieve the desired results for the potential family heirloom, Michelle arranges a time to sit with her clients, their wedding photographs and memories. Here, she listens, looks and reflects on their stories so as to understand and see the “whole picture.”

Michelle then returns to her studio and, using copies of selected wedding photographs and memorabilia she embarks on the journey of creating a synopsis of the special event in a painting of mixed media.

The time from the first meeting to delivery of the finished art work can take up to three months depending on framing.

(Art work can be purchased framed or unframed.)

Typical size of paintings on paper - unframed - are 75cm x 55cm

A non-refundable fifty percent deposit fee is required upon booking.
